There’s a lot of multiverse shenanigans in Deadpool & Wolverine, most notably the army of Deadpool variants in act three. The most famous of the bunch were of the Lady and Baby variety, but there were even more that somehow didn’t end up joining on the proceedings.
With the movie now art, concept artists for the film have revealed some of their work, and David Masson provided a look at two Deadpools that had to be benched. The first, Wolverinepool, is pretty self explanatory as a version of Wade wearing Logan’s outfit, just in his own colors and style. (Would this one be played by Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, or would they split the difference somehow?) Another one Masson showed off was Punkpool, a rocker variant with studs and spikes across his suit. You gotta imagine he was inspired by Spider-Punk in some way, and it would’ve been cool if he showed up with twin guitars instead of katanas.
Fellow artist Andy Park showed off some concept art of his own, and his big ‘Pool variant was Robpool. Park called this way of honoring the character’s co-creator Rob Liefeld as part of a “fun sequence” of changes to Deadpool’s costume during pre-production. This version has most the “classic Liefeld-isms” you could name off: “exaggerated muscles, pouches, swords, shoulder pads, his original costume color breakups and original eye shapes.” All it’s missing is some exaggerated feet, and it’s the full package. Park also showed off art of Deadpool hopping into the MCU: the Marvel Comics Universe. This would’ve been during his multiverse quest to find a Wolverine, and each of the Avengers he met would’ve been made in the vein of a legendary comic artist.
According to Park, his artwork (and presumably Masson’s) will be featured in Deadpool & Wolverine’s art book, which is slated to hit stores on October 29.
