10 Essential Items From an Epic Game of Thrones Prop Auction

When we say “essential items,” of course, we mean “props that would make outrageously great conversation pieces, if you happened to have them on display in your house.” Heritage Auctions has what must be the most comprehensive array of Game of Thrones props and costumes (including swords!) on the block right now, including some absolutely iconic mementos from the show.

Here are 10 of the most jaw-dropping lots; if you have a spare several thousand burning a hole in your pocket, you can go here to learn how to bid—or just head there to see all the stuff we didn’t include, because this auction is huge. It runs October 10-12.

Direwolf Head

Display this foam VFX stand-in—worn by a stunt performer as part of certain events surrounding the aftermath of “Red Wedding”—remind you to always be aware of your surroundings at any festive Westeros event, especially if you’ve recently betrayed any of your seemingly gracious hosts… and especially especially if you hear the band strike up “The Rains of Castamere.”

Melted Iron Throne

Everybody knows what the Iron Throne looks like—these days, it’s a centerpiece prop on House of the Dragon. But thanks to some grief-propelled dragon exhalations, the Iron Throne met its melty end as part of Game of Thrones‘ epic farewell to Westeros. According to the auction house, this misshapen blob that was once a much-coveted royal seat “can be lit from beneath to appear like molten iron with tendrils extending from its core.”

Shame Bell

The starting bid for this “if you know you know” item is $3,000, but I think we can all agree it’s truly priceless. Who wouldn’t want to have this around the house to rattle at anyone who started acting a little too much like Cersei Lannister at her worst? Or walk through the neighborhood, ringing it as you trail behind someone who knows exactly what they’ve done?

Spoiler alert! Or rather, a chance to stage a do-over of season eight’s most disappointing character arc? Add Dany’s final Game of Thrones outfit to your wardrobe, and you can pretend it didn’t all end the way it did. That said, the auction’s catalog notes “at the center of the coat’s chest is a small, bloodied hole,” forever a reminder of Jon Snow doing what Jon Snow had to do.

Jon Snow’s “Longclaw”

Speaking of the guy who knows nothing, this is one of the hero props used by Kit Harington on-screen; this sword in particular made a notable appearance in season six’s “Battle of the Bastards.” As an added bonus, if you add Longclaw to your collection, you can actually observe it in the daylight and admire its details, unlike that notoriously dark battle scene.

Tyrion Lannister Hand of the Queen Pin

In season six, Tyrion—who’s been through a lot by that point, thanks to Westeros politics and his own awful family—gets a new lease on life by becoming Dany’s Hand of the Queen, and dons the familiar pin marking his status.

Arya Stark’s “Needle”

It’s not as big as Longclaw or any of the other famous swords, but as Game of Thrones fans will recall, tiny Needle made a major impact—not to mention the fact that it was wielded by one of the fiercest warriors on the show.

When one of the greatest swordsmen in Westeros loses his sword hand, what does he do? Learns to fight with the other hand, and also dons this golden replacement to remind everyone he’s a Lannister, no matter how many missing appendages he has.

They’re cute when they’re little! This SFX prop was used during season three of Game of Thrones as a visual reference, before the CGI version was added in.

We’re not saying that wearing the red priestess’ neck adornment will endear you to the Lord of Light. (The “ruby” here is made of plastic.) But you never know what gazing into the flames might reveal to you, especially if you’re properly accessorized for the part!
